Good answer!

Well, we're not talking about people you don't see often and you actually care how they're doing. We're talking (at least I am) about the everyday BS at work mostly and whatever businesses you have to go to.

Yes, I am talking about seeing the same people day in and day out every single day.

I guess I will continue just to say, "well, thanks for asking, I'm doing great!"

It's not that big of a deal, but maybe I should keep saying.....

I'm good, how are you doing? Blah.

HaHaHa

Why keep asking this day in and day out when you already know what the answer will be.

Do you work @ a 7-11 or something?

Well, good. And how are you doing today?

Just kidding, but it's all good man. I'm great every single day. So, expect that response, because you don't want to hear anything else.

We have greetings or conversations like those, that are just short and detached enough to acknowledge each others' existence as human beings travelling about our busy lives so as to not look totally aloof, but not long and involved enough to actually have to inconvenience each other, dig into personal detail or direct our paths astray too far.

They're social signals, for better or for worse that "I'm here" and "You're here" and our paths are crossing for a moment and I see that you're present, more than actual invitations to conversation a lot of the time (though that intent is there of course sometimes).
