Basically "females" is used as a code word for "bitc**es" or "ho*s." It's a way of being disrespectful in an underhanded way.
When the word is used, it's usually in reference to some perceived negative trait or behavior. It's also the way it's said, usually spit out of the mouth like a piece of s**t.
"I can't stand these FEMALES out here."
"These FEMALES are out of control."
Also, I've yet to hear men refer to themselves as "males."

OMG, THANK YOU!!!
This is exactly what I was trying to say earlier, but didn't know how to express it better. Some of these other posters think the issue is about feminism (women wanting a genderless society or some other made up mess about feminism) or people just being dumb and not understanding that they are biologically female because of their reproductive organs (I mean really? People are that dumb. They know what differentiates a man from a woman
). It is about how the word is being used now by some people (usually men). It is understandable if the older posters haven't heard of it, but I am surprised the younger ones haven't (I'm 22).
It has gotten so bad that now I hear it being used in everyday speech (not intending to be offensive). For example, this lesbian woman I know kept referring to other women as 'females'. She kept saying "Look, Imma tell you, these females don't know who they messin' with". and "See, females cause too much drama".
Like I read earlier (I'm thinking in this same thread), it is just like the word broad. Replace 'female' with 'broad' in the examples I typed above and you will see what I'm talking about.
Before anyone tries to rant at me like before, while I don't like this, I don't go crazy and spazz out whenever I hear someone talk like this. I'm just saying I don't like it.

I hear it in the South, so it may be an east coast thing? lol
