SF is good for single guys, terrible for employment. Lots of single women here, but everyone is massively overqualified for a tiny number of open positions. I've seen PHDs and Masters working in Trader Joe's and what not.
The area with the lowest unemployment rate happens to be a terrible place for single guys. The job market in Western North Dakota is booming due to the oil industry. Of course this is a male dominated industry and most of the jobs are for men...to the point where workers live in "man camps" because housing is scarce.

Really? I though the tech sector was booming out there.

What about the DC metro area? That has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.

Oh it is, my friend, it is, and therein lies the problem. The number of young professionals all thinking that and thus moving to the area are massive (especially when you consider the number from Asia alone). Most of them tire of the skyrocketing rent and move to San Jose or Palo Alto or somewhere in the East Bay. What you could do if you is find a job in the city and live outside it, and commute each day, thus keeping costs down. Rent is the number one highest cost because of the small size of the city. Gas is nothing compared to it; or you could use the Bart public transportation, which is fairly efficient.

I live right outside DC and it is a pretty good choice. I've had more luck here than where I was living in Louisville. Only thing is DC is very expensive.
I'd not advise any guy to go to Louisville, unless you like your women overly family-oriented.

Then how is the unemployment situation bad?
