I only see the decline continuing in our lifetimes.

Agree or disagree?

Agree. Probably. Not that it's necessarily bad.

OP, that's a good thing. Most people get married for all the wrong reasons, end up miserable, and/or end up divorcing anyway.

On top of that, marriage is no longer needed now that women have equal rights and access to jobs like men do. Of course, people will keep marrying, but not out of necessity like back in the 1940s.

Agree. Singles are a booming demographic. Yet, American society still doesn't look at them as favorably as it does married people.

Why does that matter, though?

Several reasons, which include:
- the canyon that forms with married friends
- discriminatory practices in employment
- diminished potential to participate in the social aspects of religious congregations
- shorter lifespan, in most cases

I don't believe people should get married because of societal expectations. No way. However, there's a flip side to remaining single.

I'll be back in a few to see who's fault it is.

I've noticed the opposite with my friends.... I've had 9 engagements happen in the past 6 months alone. I've only got a very small handful of friends who aren't either engaged, getting engaged or married. I'm approaching 30, so I figure that's probably why.

So long as people who are getting married are doing so for the right reasons, does it really matter? If people are that concerned about marriage, maybe we should legalize same-sex marriage across the US to remedy this. Of course, I don't believe government should stick it's nose into marriage in the first place.
