Do you have children ?
Do your children live with you ?
What do you do for a living ( you have to ask this, when I didn't.. come to find out he was a drug dealer)
Do you have roomates(which you can then segue into if they live with their parents)then I start thinking how are you in your 30's and live with your parents (wth happened to u )

I try not to ask too many questions but encourage elaboration.

I gauge the conversation by seeing if what's said is generic or truly authentic.

By the end of the night I get a better feel.

Usually, what's important is what's not blatantly said, but what's unsaid. Then I know. Contradictions and inconsistencies? Key to figuring out when a person's b.s.'ing or unsure of themselves.
