I am rather rugged with hairy arms, chest hair, facial hair, thick eye brows and an underbite. Despite having a great hairline and smooth pale skin, I look older than what I am. I think my appearance (and preference for plaid shirts) attracts the wrong women.
Who knows, everyone has their own preferences, there is no blanket answer for your question.
Personally I am not attracted to rugged men at all. I like young looking, smooth skinned, relatively hairless guys who are not muscly. I put it down to being attracted to the very opposite of my Dad.
most girls find manly man sexy, depends on who u are trying to attract. Personally i like to look masculine. If a girl wants a feminine man than shes probably the wrong girl for me.

I think the whole idea that hairiness = manliness is pretty silly. It's totally genetic, like having blue eyes. So that would mean Middle Eastern guys are the manliest of them all. A shrimpy 5'2" guy of Italian stock would be more rugged than Arnie? lol
Even if one does buy into it, I'd rather be less hairy and less manly, no offense to you more hirsute guys out there.
I never liked being called "cute" by women past the age of let's say 16. Women have sex with guys they feel are hot not cute and more often then not the "rugged" man falls under the hot category

I have dated/been in relationships with both. My ex was rather slight, babyfaced, generally looked younger than his years, more of a boyish than manly appearance - definitely the type people would call "cute" vs. handsome. My SO is more the the stereotypical "manly-man" type in appearance, definitely ruggedly handsome vs. cute. I don't have any one particular type, appearance-wise, I'm attracted to either type. I'm probably not the only woman like that.
