I suppose this is always the case with arranged marriages and mail-order brides...

Yes. People do that to get a US visa all the time.

This happened to my wife in her first marriage. Although... and these are her words... she convinced herself that he loved her although his actions were speaking otherwise. He was a foreigner looking for residency. So although no children, there was an alterior motive.

Depends on what you define as an arranged marriage. It's way more complicated than most Westerner's simplistic assumptions.

Hmmm... how about aside from arranged marriages, or those done just to obtain residency?

I didn't marry her but I was with a girl for nearly 5 years because I loved the "attention" she gave me and how she made me feel because I had very few girls in my life and she was really attracted to me and wanted me badly.

It wasn't until well into the relationship I never really found her "attractive" from the very start, which made sex hard later on and because I suffered from low self esteem and OCD, I kept going with the relationship because I thought I was being "shallow" for wanting someone prettier. I honestly couldn't truthfully say she was "beautiful" becasue, I never meant it, I had to grit my teeth to say it.

The only thing that kept me going also was I did mostly like her personality and outlook on life as we did see eye to eye on many things. But the chemical attraction and sex appeal? It never existed from the start, I was simply blinded by "love" and the attention of a women in my life. But she also had severe mental problems, indecisiveness and immaturity in regards to making "grown up" decisions.

Eventually, it ended badly and in lots of tears. Learned a very important lesson, if not a few from that relationship
