It would sure be nice to cook the family breakfast and dinner, take care of the kids and the family pet, and spend time with the wife at the end of the evening.

A happy marriage is one of the most wonderful experiences one can have in life.

...For those of you who can't tell this is a counter-thread to all the negativity we've been having. The bond between a couple is a beautiful thing, regardless of risk of a potentially rather nasty breakup due to legalities. It's a bit of a gamble, but there are steps one can take to minimize risk and maximize reward.

You're such a sweet guy Hurricane.

Marriage can be great if two people are equally willing to commit to making their relationship work.

It's sort of a magic formula of mutual trust and having the ability to see past minor issues to keep the relationship rolling in a healthy way.

And yes, those silly routine chores are sweeter when shared or freely given. But don't discount your happy life in the here and now. It can all be pretty good if you keep things in perspective.

You love the idea of marriage? Good for you. I do not. End of rebuttal. Nothing to see here.

When you get married and find yourself in the chaos of Wife, home, children, pets and many responsibilities, please don't forget to love the actual Marriage, not just the "idea" of it.

I believe you can obtain all of those things in life without being married as well. Papers don't make a relationship/family work.

Marriage can be a wonderful thing. My parents are going on 40+ years, my Grandparents have been married 75 years. I've seen good marriages.

I believe what we learned in preschool is what people need to exhibit in their marriage.

Be nice
Don't be mean
Share
Be happy

It's simple and basic and when one doesn't treat the other with these guidelines..... IT DOESN'T WORK!

The government certainly can interfere with a relationship. Unfortunately for me, I can't live together with a woman unless I am married, but hey that's Florida for ya.

Oh, and they actually fine people for that. Can't find the original article, though I did read it a few years ago.

Since when is putting oneself first "selfish"?

If people don't want to get married that is their business... it doesn't make them selfish. Selfish would be getting married while you are still wanting to work or take care of yourself.

Reminds me of the time a co-worker called me selfish because I didn't want kids. I had the most confused look on my face after that.
