I do know it means Long Term Relationship, but what is your definition of a Long Term Relationship?

This was brought up in discussion in another thread which I do not wish to hijack.

Long Term Relationships to me have been widely known to mean a long term committed relationship by two people in a monogamous relationship.

Another poster declared that he recently lost a long time lover to a relationship because she wanted a monogamous relationship. He stated that this was considered by him to be an LTR. I think the definition that was given means LTR means Long Term Recreation in this case.

How do you see those two definitions and what is your definition and how do you take the term LTR?

LTR to me is a relationship i have with a woman that lasts at least 1 year.

It means that I want to share my life with her and enjoy each other's company.

It also means, to me, that I might have interest in marrying her some day.

That's pretty much all I have right now. I'm pretty tired.

Long term committed relationship whether it be monogamous or non-monogamous. One can be polyamorous and seek out long term, committed relationships.

For me, personally, such would imply that I want to build and share a life with my partner, to one day marry him and continue that journey.

Sorry, I immediately see it as LORD OF THE RINGS

Well, Gollum certainly had a long term relationship with the Ring

To me it means exactly what it says... a realtionship that lasts a long time. That can be committed, exclusive, neither, ot whatever. LTR just refers to time.

For me (personally) that's six months to a year. I tend to also like my LTRs to be exclusive. Anything else is just dating. And if I am investing my time in a man, I certainly don't want him sleeping around with other women (I just don't have it in me to "like" more than one man at a time so it's a given with me). I think in my case, a LTR that's exclusive kind of involves commitment by default.

For me a LTR relationship is monogamous (but that definition may differ with other people) that's about 6 mos to a year.

Basically a relationship where you are comfortable enough to plan a vacation in an upcoming season.

LTR

Basically you are committed to be in a physical and mental relationship/connection with one person. You are not going to seek out another person in a intimate way neither physically or mentally.

To me, it entails monogamy. The poly scene is not my thing, and I don't consider a romantic relationship to be a relationship if it's not monogamous. If either of us is dating around, we're not "in a relationship." I would consider a relationship to be "long-term" once is passes a year or so.
