That's a few examples of the top of my head where men constantly show much more of an interest in meeting somebody, I'm sure there are many many more that I'm not thinking off right now
Why is this? Are there are a lot of single women who are happy and totally single by choice where as most guys who are single are trying to date? Is it because of a huge difference in sex drive?
Well with the biology excuse some are using in other posts (ie as to why its OK for men to act like a ho but not women), I'll just say that men are biologically programmed to be the hunter.

Most people go to bars to hang out with their buddies. All guys talk about going out and finding women, but how many guys honestly spend their whole night just looking around the bar for women to talk to? lol
If I'm downtown, most bars are 50/50.. if I'm at a hole in the wall bar there is mostly guys and maybe a wife or something. Most people are out to drink some booze and forget about work.. not find a lover.
Online dating attracts tons of creeps and losers, guys are more likely to be like this than women.. which is why you see so many more online. On top of that, most women have an easier time in the dating world, whether they want to agree or not. Which is another reason you see less women online than men.
I find people in general who are so desperate to date others...childish and annoying. It's like those people that always need to have boyfriends and girlfriends and be with someone. I'll share a secret with you.. Here is the perfect mindset to have in regards to this
" I would like to meet a great person, but if I dont so be it. I am prepared to go through life by myself..because I love myself and am content with all the beauty life has to offer"
