You said right in the first post that you weren't even friends, and he became more distant and cold. Why would you want to reach out to him at all? Why do you have so much feeling invested in him that you might not be able to handle it if it doesn't turn out well?

Being nervous about it is not completely about him. I struggle with taking risks in general.

So if you had already decided to contact him anyway why did you strat a thread asking "what should I do"?
You know yourself better than anyone (in theory), so you should be able to make a decision for your own life that you think is best for you.
