I think the terminology is what throws people off - rent vs. contribution. Tenants pay rent. Partners contribute.
I agree with this.
Your partner shouldn't be your landlord. But you should also contribute to household expenses if you live there. That's not someone being your landlord, that's taking adult responsibility for financing your living situation.
If your living there you should pay. How many parents make their grown kids pay rent when they move home? It costs money when you use the lights, take a shower or cook on the stove. Yea, it sucks bc you technically don't have say in the house or anything to show for equity wise, but it's the same way when you rent. I for one wouldn't let a man freeload off of me.
