We came home tonight and could instantly tell something was majorly wrong.
Oh, my god, SD.

I'm so, so sorry. Please tell Beagle, too. I'm so sorry.

Thanks. He bloated. True to his nature, he was a jerk until the very end. We will miss him, though.

We had to laugh about that, at least just a little. They were able to get an x-ray before he decided he had had enough. It was bad, so we know there was no other option.

SD & Beagle I'm sorry to read about your 4 legged friend, jerk or not and I glad he had a good day.

I don't understand what "he bloated" means though and I want to pass along a wee story that you can get a chuckle out of.
I mention the story though because Beagle you said "true to his nature he was a jerk to the end" (that made me chuckle)

Anyway, Mr. CSD has a friend who had a dog named Sparky who was the meanest, nastiest, most obnoxious rat terrier thing on 4 legs. This friend found Sparky when he was at someone else's home, neglected, abused, basically abandoned but still in that home. So he asked if he could just take the dog and he was allowed to. Sparky was taken to his new home, got medical attention, fed, sheltered properly in the house, treated well and got much better but the attitude was still the same.

The day Sparky died he had to be taken to the vet because he had gotten very ill and they did test, xrays etc and found he was filled with cancer tumors and the decision was made to put him to sleep.
So, this friend of Mr. CSD's is there with Sparky and the vet; the vet puts the medication in the IV to put Sparky to sleep and the very last thing Sparky did with his last breath was reach up and bite this friend on the thumb.
The bite was so bad and so deep this friend had to stop at the Emergency Room on the way home, get a tetanus shot, have it cleaned out and get 5 stitches in his thumb.

I finally finished taking out all of those 100,000 stitches, I am full of oatmeal which means I am warm from the inside out and am full of carbohydrates which is code for "I'm going back to bed"...LOL

Good morning. Today the hot weather returns. I can feel it already. Woke up sweating in my custom made thinsulate tank.

CSD, that story made me chuckle.

Bloat is when their stomach twists and flips...gastric torsion. It's often fatal. Large dogs with deep chests are at a higher risk for it. There is surgery they can try, but the prognosis still wouldn't have been good. With his age and temperament, we decided that letting him go was the kindest, most responsible decision.
