My most recent ex would tell me she loved me all the time, and she was perfectly aware that I wasn't in the same place, so I would usually just say nothing. We discussed it and I told her I wasn't going to say it until I was sure I could mean it. I never did, but she kept saying it anyway. Definitely made things awkward, especially right after sex.
