So for those of you whose commute consist of a subway ride to and from work what is your take on approaching and meeting women in those circumstances. I am only wondering because so many are occupied and zoned in to their phones and music players that they seem sort of off-limits and unapproachable. Is it just me, or should I man up and actually try to introduce myself to some of these women? Thoughts?
It's ok to start a casual chat. I don't see people wearing earbuds on transit, much. But I don't see that at the gyms I go to, either, while everyone else says all the women at the gym wear earbuds. So, YMMV. Chatting at the bus stop is good, too.
Go for it. I talk to people on the train all the time. Just start off with small talk if she opens up and keeps the conversation going, ask her if she'd like to talk later. And offer an email or your phone number. Email addresses are more appealing to some girls who don't like giving out their phone number until they feel more comfortable with you.

Columbia, MD, eh? So you're talking about the Metro? Forget it. You're going to get branded obnoxious on a good day, a creep on a bad. That's just the way it is. I know very few women who want to be bothered on a crowded train on their way to or home from work. Their first reaction is going to be to clutch their totes tighter and watch where your hands are going.
On the platform, meh. Maybe if she's sitting on a bench and you sit an appropriate distance from her (the width of at least one other person), and she has an interesting tote or is flipping through some kind of magazine or something that you could comment on. I used to have this green tote with a panda on it from the National Zoo. People were always complimenting me on it, and it was such a D.C. thing to have that tourists were always asking me for help getting around.
