My mother works in Law enforcement (Not as a cop, but as a clerk & receptionist at the police station), so healthcare is set for me till the age of 25. I'm doing an Internship as a engineer with with USAF and hope to convert it into a full time job next year, which has similar benefit patterns. I'm not too worried right now, as it isn't too much of a financial burden.

Problem is, mental health isn't covered under this scheme, hence its quite expensive. That's where I really need help.

yes, benefits for government employees are typically very good. Over the years they have started to cover a little less with each new contract, but they're still quite good considering how little we have to pay in.

My leave and retirement are the best things about my job. Almost 15 years with the same agency.

Yup. Don't you just love it when the people of NY (indirectly) pay Mr. for doing his job .

I could move one state over, and make 10 to 15 thousand more per year doing the same exact job.

Isn't it odd how that works? We used to have a major pay discrepancy between upstate NY and downstate NY employees; the pay was the same but the cost of living is so much lower upstate.

The cost of living isn't as huge an issue here. You pay one way or another.

Upstate is altogether like a different state. This is way up north along lake champlain.
