That's what I'm saying. It comes across a cheap. And often it is. I like to eat too. So I get a dinner - or the other suggestions, and have a drink. Maybe there was chemistry - maybe not. Either way I don't look like a cheap jerk and there is a lot more to talk about with decent background music and the absence of glaring lights.

My last date first date with a woman was over 25 years ago. I took her for middle eastern food - just appetizers and wine - and we ended up ordering entrees and staying for desert. I like women who enjoy good food, and a refined atmosphere.

She's my wife now.

A churrascarria on dance night! Now thats what I call a date.

I like active dates as well. If there is an obvious activity I know that both of us will enjoy on a first date, I will go that direction. If I don't have enough information to figure that out and I still like the woman, I'll do the standard drinks date in a nice lounge.

OP-I read in there that you are 19, soon to be 20. Not being 21 is a limiting factor in dating. I'm sure you are also occasionally dating men over 21. I'm not impressed with the Applebee's idea for a first date on his part, though that isn't your problem. Meal first dates have their own issues. However, I hope things go well for you on that date.

I love coffee and would be open to it. I do agree with the poster who said that ladies like to get dressed up for a date, I know I do. But other than having to dress down a bit, I think it would be a nice way to get to know someone.

The most romantic first date I've ever had was at a cafe.

The venue wasn't really the important part. At all.
