I was watching Househunters (judge away!), and the yuppie husband was planning to spend $550K on a historic home that was "move-in ready," rather than buy one much cheaper that needed some small repairs and a bit of decorating. His wife tells the camera that he can't even hang a towel rack, and he seems sort of proud of it. (She also teased him about wearing a pink button down shirt.)
Something made me want to post here and ask the ladies what they think of a guy who is less handy--say less handy than the average single female homeowner is expected to be).
I find it kind of a turn off in fact. I was done with urbane, androgynous artist types by the time I was 25.
Mod edited on Feb 22 to add: For the sake of peace in the valley, let's make this thread gender non-specific. The thread has been cleaned up and bickering, inappropriate posts have been deleted. There's some good discourse going on here. Please don't ruin it with personal attacks and off-topic comments. Thanks. PS - Thread title has been edited to reflect non-specific gender.

My working in construction certainly has its ups and as a bloke I'm not too keen on fellas that won't get their hands dirty either.
It really depends.....my age may have something to do with this...but it doesn't really bother me that much. I don't know how to really do anything myself so it doesn't really make sense for me to expect him to.
I can't say it's too attractive. Even I can to some things. Install a lock on a door, put chairs together. Hammer, Measuring, Dealing with the Breaker. etc. And I am still learning.
So a guy who can't do anything is a tad...eck, just to be polite and avoid any offense lol.

As a guy who works with lots of nerdy engineers, I loathe men like that.
I have had co-workers call me about their power being out and I have explain to them what the breaker box looks like, where they're usually located, and how to flip the breaker. I helped one of them install a new a front door in his house, kid was completely clueless, I honestly think changing a tire would be difficult for him.
Their fathers must've never taught them anything, I remember hanging out under the car for hours annoying my father and uncle while they changed out motors or whatever.
These are all men with advanced degrees that spend tons of time in the gym.
I have an inspector on my inspector list that avidly shows his disdain to unhandy male buyers (not so with females - he doesn't expect females to know anything, so he is very sweet and patient explaining things to them). He is a good inspector, but when giving the list to a buyer - I tell them he would not be a good match for them, if that male buyer has led me to believe that he would get exposed to a crappy inspector attitude.
I have had a aeronautical engineer and a brain surgeon as clients. I don't think either could hang a picture. But if it came to someone operating on my brain - or flying in a plane that they designed - I would pick them over that inspector.
I watch Househunters, too (I know). The realtor failed if she/he did not explain how easy it is to pick up a phone and get work done.
Two welders, two, no wait, three tool chests full of tools. A cluttered workbench.
