You were provided that hotel for work, right? That doesn't mean that you HAV to restrict himself to it. Personally, I wouldn't be interested in a park resort full of families, and it baffles me that your job would pay for this.
By the way, a tiny down of 3,000 has a water park resort???? Or did you mean 30,000?
I agree with the poster that wrote that you still have to sleep and wash up. Do you need a companion to use the pool? Although it would probably be annoying with so many kids in it ~ I get that.
If there's nothing else to do there, skip the bar and find a good restaurant that you can relax in. You're there on an assignment, and you are not obligated to meet people.

Nope, 3,000 is correct. Based on the description and the hotel names, the town sounds like Wisconsin Dells, and it indeed has about 3,000 people. It actually has lots of water park resorts (and bars, and restaurants, and curio museums, and touristy shops). The town makes a fortune off of them in business taxes; not to mention, they provide tons of jobs, even if service sector. Mostly due to summer tourists coming from Chicago, Milwaukee, and other nearby cities. The local townie population is quite small, obviously.
I'm sure the OP isn't disclosing the city name, for obvious reasons, but I have a feeling Wisconsin Dells is it.

Now I'm curious. It must be in a very desirable, scenic setting. I'll look it up.

Thanks.
I went to the Dells a few times when I lived in WI. It's a fascinating place. Total touristy summer boom. Go cart parks, mini golf, indoor and outdoor waterpart, plus all the normal touristy stuff (ripleys believe it or not museum type crud) The Ho Chunk tribe own a chunk of the area and have a very profitably casino there. Its crazy busy during summer, and has been a resort destination for 100+ years, originally gone to for the geological features and water, which is very nice.

I live in Chicago, so I've been to Wisconsin Dells four times in total: once during high school (family vacation) and three times as an adult. I can confirm that this description is 100% accurate.

Actually most such resorts are in tourist sort of areas that may not have a large year-round population. My niece and her family go to one in the Poconos. In terms of your round population that area is quite low as there are few jobs outside of tourism.
