Couple months ago I had fallen and had to get my knee checked out by my GP. She wasn’t in so I had to go to a different one, in the same building. I didn’t notice his looks straight away because he was much taller than me and I’m extremely short.

Anyway, we sat down and he opened my file and we began. He first started with saying I see you’re born in (name of country and place) and your dad is (nationality) so what brings you here. I mentioned that I used to live in Australia after which he called me a world citizen which made me smile a bit. He then said I see that you suffer from (Name of chronic illness). At what age were you diagnosed. I thought this was a little strange because I thought it was already in my medical file but I guess not. I was also surprised because not many people including doctor know what it is.

Anyway he then checked my knee and before that he said “If possible roll your leggings up and if not take them off.” ( not that important but most doctors are basically like “strip” so I thought it was a gentleman thing to say).

While checking my knee etc, he made the remark that he’s never seen anyone with and without my condition who has that extreme flexible joints (he’s a GP and Sports doctor). After that we sat back down and soon after he knocked over his water bottle and he said “well, at least I scared you”. And I smiled a bit. Then he told me what was wrong and it was time for me to leave. As I stood up I noticed this weird kind of tension in the air, it’s hard to explain but put on my jacket and before I could say anything he said “happy holidays” and I said the something back. He stayed seated as I was leaving the room but I could sense that he was looking at me while I was leaving the room.

Before anyone says anything, YES I KNOW that doctor patient relationships are prohibited but, technically I’m not his patient and since im moving to a different town I won’t even have the chance of being his patient anymore. I only want to know if my gut feeling was right or that it’s completely off and he was just being super kind after seeing my medical file. I tried to let him go but for some reason I just can't forget about him...

I vote for "not flirting."

Yes, not flirting, just being a good doctor.

Not flirting. None of his questions or comments are unusual for a good doctor.

He's very good at setting patients at ease, i.e. has a good manner. He's also good at attention to detail, and looking at each case holistically, it seems.

DR. rating: A

Flirting rating: N/A ("not applicable")

If you imagine a female doctor saying these things, it's not an issue.

Yeah I imagine it. But it's just that I've never had anyone ask those things or say those things. That's why. But thanks!

To me, it was odd that he asked where your father was from. Other than that, not flirting.
