I had a coworker who was on the initial season of a foreign reality dating/travel show when he was a college student. He got rejected romantically but I think he had a really good time regardless. He didn’t say anything bad about his experience. He was cast as basically the unremarkable guy in the show who did not really stand out. The show is set up to have an uneven number of participants, but I think in his season all the women were pining over the same “popular” guy. I worked with him 4-6 years after his show was aired and he was happy to lend out the episodes for people to watch. He was still using his reality show nickname as well.
I guess this formula worked well. I am not sure how many season there have been, but was still on the air before the pandemic.
