I know somebody right now who is dating a married man and just like your friend he takes her out in public. He thinks nothing about it. You can't even tell he is married. People are crazy. Happens everyday!

but you should not jump to conclusions. maybe they have an open relationship. either way it would be best to stay away from them. it does not seem like an honest, healthy or positive space. no need to be a part of that.
Curious story... Well, I'm sure the situation is not a surprise for the wife if he spends weekends with the GF and introduces her to everybody. In some cultures this is a way of life.
You actually were being very polite to leave a thank you note. So the fact that the wife found it may be that it was meant to be found. At least she knows now. How sad that he didn't leave first. Not sure why people don't do that in the right order. If you are not in love and wanting to see others than leave first and don't go behind other's backs...sure wouldn't want someone who did that to someone else.

Perhaps it's because divorce is (financially) costly, so, instead of going through the actual divorce process, the couple just stays married, but sees other people. How sad.
It doesn't sound like they were really hiding it anyway. Sometimes people leave an "open door" in hopes somebody will spill the beans.
