I think everyone self medicates in one way or another, not always drugs or booze although I think if I had a mindless job I would welcome someone walking the room and handing out shooters of something and my daily meds.
Nothing alters my mood more than music and If I reach a wall on something I can't figure out I put on a CD or just let SIRIUS pick songs for me. Maybe being on CD is even a form of self medication.
A hypochondriac coworker of mine says that only two women out of their lil' social circle of soccer moms are not on some sort of happy pills and they're the only miserable-looking ones... She often recommends to me to get chirpy this way. I'm old-fashioned and generally prefer to stick to my scotch. Having a similar to mine mind around helps, too (I'm not gonna specify what the kind is ).
