I've been noticing lately that when I hold a door open for a female or stop an elevator for a female to get on that I'm getting a strange vibe. It almost seems like women don't like it or maybe it's just me.

Maybe they are just plain old fashion rude. Not a thank you or at least a smile.

So is chivalry dead, are manners dead?

Or am I generalizing too much?

I appreciate it when people do that for me. I'm a girl and I hold doors open for people. I usually get a thank you when I do it.

I remember this thread a few months ago.. and yeap.. back then I said the same thing.. chivalry is dead the way we knew it.. or how it used to be.

Now with the women lib stuff.. and they are on equal terms with you.. you will get a lot of reaction when you try to act as a gentleman and open doors or other things.. the basic response "I can do that on my own" appears to be common with women now.

Of course, let something occur or where they need a man's touch, and the snottiness disappears so that you can now help them as a gentleman. So basically they are trying to have their cake and eat it to.. When it is convenient for them.. then chivalry is in.. otherwise it is out the door.

I've never come across a lady who was insulted when I opened the door for them. I do it all the time because that's what I was taught. If she biotches at you, she's a woman...but not a lady.

I question the elevator thing. I never get on alone with a male I dont know.
As for doors....thats just wierd.
But maybe they are hoping you dont use it as a way to hit on them.

I think there was a thread for this already, but I believe chivalry ain't dead it's just the bargaining chips are different today. Those that choose to be chivalrous are still there. I've also found the "opening doors" attitude varys from place to place, there are those that won't even say a word, then there are those that say thank you without even looking at you and rush away and then there are some that look you in the eye and say thank you and smile which is very heart-warming. I am not hitting on them, just showing a kind gesture.

It might be, but when I come across it I like it. As far as opening doors, people do it a lot here.

Any chivalry I had has been eroded by the female of the species. They all seem to be cold, heartless and superior to mankind. I think women only allow a door to be held for them by their beau or whatever you call it. If I am not a beau, I get strange looks like she saying, "My man does this, but this guy isn't my man".
