Because he's 76 years old and knows better than anyone else. He doesn't trust my Mom with the four wheel drive. I'd rather just sit in the back and shut up, instead of doing the driving and having him yelling at either me or my Mom to SLOW DOWN, BE CAREFUL, WATCH IT.

I love my parents dearly, but sometimes wish I could spend Christmas alone. However, I am being a "good daughter" and because I'm an only child and my Dad isn't in the best of health I figured I should just suck it up and come for Christmas because there may not be too many more Christmases together.

Oh, I'm sure he was the same at 66, 56, 46, etc... He's a man, isn't he?! My Dad (may he rest in peace) used to give me advice how to drive on a freeway (which he hadn't seen in his life before) and was also reading the maps and giving suggestions. Also, like any real man he'd refuse to use a restroom when there is one available and inevitably had to go as soon as I was in the middle lane of a 5-lane freeway.

If you're single, what are you doing on Christmas day?
I think you are confusing two issues here. First, you ask what the LONELY are doing for Christmas, then you talk about SINGLE people. Single people are not necessarily lonely people and vice versa.

Frankly, I got a bit pissed at myself last night. I was in such a blissful and peaceful mood, almost like Nirvana and had vowed not to post. Then went upstairs, saw this thread and got tempted to share the joy. Then read some more and posted some more (not exactly pleasant things) and the magic was kinda gone. Managed to restore it somewhat, but it wasn't the same... The Internet is poison, I tell ya!

...
All that bickering is supposed to be healthy, right? We can't keep it bottled up.

Yes, we live and die by the Internet.

First of all, What do the lonely do at Christmas is a song.

Secondly, I think you're the one confused. Why would someone in a relationship be lonely, unless seperated from their mates? I targeted this to single people because more than likely they would be the one who are lonely based on the definition..

lone·ly (lnl)
adj. lone·li·er, lone·li·est 1. a. Without companions; lone.
b. Characterized by aloneness; solitary.

If I was living on my own away from family in the 1990s or prior, I don't think I could do it. The Internet and cell phone makes it much more easy to spend Christmas away from family.
