They are a big sponsor of the Houston Astros. They give away a big Goya basket every game after the 'find the bean' game. Always a fan favorite.

Ha ha. Good list.

Some weren't on there that I would have expected:
-Chevrolet products
-reproduction
-other tacky celebrations like quincanera (sp).
-putting too many people into a car

Others were reliably there:
-culos (what we used to refer to growing up as "el culo Cubano" when it gets TOO big from too many pasteles de guayava and croquetas, so I think it's more of a "take it or leave it" issue more so than liking it),
-baseball
-flags (Argentina and Uruguay have cool flags)

Oh, yeah, that's right, the Cubans (1/3 of my Catholic grammar school) only like other Cubans, can hang with the Argentinians and Venezuelans, and definitely like the Spaniards (their mother land, with a tangible link to the Canary Islands)...but tend to dislike most other Hispanics.

Funny you mention Goya. We have a Mexican grocery store, Fiesta Foods, and we shop there all the time - my wife is from Ukraine, I'm "Casper-white" as well, but, whatever. That store rocks, they have a lot of Goya products, we love 'em. I always get a loaf of jalopeno cheese bread when we go there, it's great. They have a lot of less-known vegetables and meats beyond beef-chicken-pork.

We burn a lot of those votive candles as well, during holiday season. They are handy to have around the house anyway, if the power goes out they burn nice and steady for a couple of days, longer if you snuff them out during the daylight hours.

Goya is more East Coast Cuban/Puerto Rican/Dominican than Southwestern..........

I came across one store like this here. I think it was called Tropical Foods, but it was tiny and the selection was pathetic. Guess we don't have many of those folks. Looks like I find more stuff than they would.
