This is for those of you who you get put under alot of stress with your work. Just curious what do you do in your downtime that helps you unwind and relax? always interested to hear Ideas.
I am now semi retired so it appears that all I do is relax and unwind lately! When I worked, my boss was probably 25-30 years younger than I and didn't seem to have much work ethic. He was never in work, always out sick on Mondays and would never call in when he was going to be out. When the BIG BOSS would ask where he was I never would know and that looked bad for me. I was a customer service rep and LOVED my customers...had all sorts of awards for outstanding service. Anyhow, the stress got really bad working for this guy. One year on my birthday, I got sick and called in. I had only had 2 days out that year. My boss, who was on a skiing trip, called in discovered I was out on my birthday and accused me of lying about being ill. At that time, I was probably 56 years old, had been in the working world since my early 20's, was a Senior Admin. Assistant for years for a large company and NEVER felt the need to lie about being ill. Well, the stress and anger hit the fan...I scheduled a meeting in Personnel with the VP of Personnel while Mr. Perfect was out skiing. So...in the meantime, Mr. Perfect calls in again wanting to know what is going on and now "he is going to take me to Personnel"....OH what satisfaction and stress release I got telling him I had already called a meeting with Personnel. He damn near choked on the phone. Two weeks later I quit.
So.........my advice to get rid of stress is to get rid of what is stressing you out or at least try to fix it. You can try all these neat little tricks that magazines and doctors will give you but unless you go right to the heart of the problem the stress does not go away.
Good Luck...hope this helped you.........I am 61 now, do not work and I am lovin life!

I'll answer for my SO, since he's too busy to post.
He comes home for lunch. Getting out of the office and not going to a crowded restaurant seems to help. Also saves money and better food options health/calorie wise.
We try to run during lunch 2-3 times per week. On the days we don't run we ride (bicycles) after work.
In the summer, I garden and ride my motorcycle. In the winter, I fill the bird feeder and watch the birds fight for it (looks a lot like my fellow associates and I) ..
