This doesn't happen often, but it certainly happens. Always keep your guard up when meeting new people, and for the love of god meet in public places until you feel safe with the person. Crazies in the world!
I would be very hesitant to date someone I met online.
It's not so bad if you follow appropriate protocol. Meet them in a public place, drive yourself, and go where there's a lot of traffic. I swear, people make online dating so much harder than it ever has to be. The same thing could happen with someone you met in real life as well.
I realize the stigma that is online dating; however, I think it gets blown out of proportion a little bit. I can understand being hesistant, but if the person seems relatively normal, what's the harm in meeting them in a public place?
Don't let one apple spoil the whole bunch. It's like saying just because you had a child out of wedlock, you are less worthy.
People harp on the bad of online dating to keep themselves from experiencing the good!

You may not be less worthy, but that doesn't mean I want to accept you into my inner circle either.
I personally think the internet is the place where you find a lot of damaged goods. So far in my latest round of dating, it seems I've scored 4 fatties including one who had bariatric surgery (one of them seemed pretty cool, but it looks like the interest waned), 2 alcoholics including one who has multiple traffic offenses and a passing bad checks conviction and another who is sickly due to liver damage and one person who flaked (I was having doubts about her anyway due to her lesbian sister* and her views on abortion) ...
I do have one person on the hook who seems normal, but then again I'm sure she has ways to screen people so I have to get past those barriers.
Overall, it doesn't seem that internet dating attracts the best class of people.
YES, I DO MY RESEARCH!!!
* I don't have a problem with gays and lesbians doing whatever they do, I just don't want to know about it and I don't want it around me.
I never dated online.I do not like that. There are women everywhere
When you're young, there are. When you're older? It gets a little tougher mostly due to the fact that you're surrounded mostly by couples.
