My wife and I ocassionally call each other by our first names, most of the time is honey or babe, or something like that. When I'm in a goofing mood, I call her Chick and she calls me Dude. It all in fun.
The real first name thing is usually a serious in nature conversation.
I really don't use nick names. It makes me pause when I have been called a nick name like "babe" or "doll". I hate that. Really old men can call me "sweetheart" to get my attention in places I worked and that I'll accept. But peers/s.o.....no...It just feels out-dated and off.
I refuse to be called anything but my name. So if he calls me baby I get mad. If he were to come up with a original name one he never called another woman ,I would maybe like that. I call him his name. Even though I hate his name. Our son will not be a junior.
That thread about being called the wrong name got me to thinking... I cannot remember the last time I called my husband by his real name. I guess I have at some point, but I cannot remember ever doing it. Seems like every long term relationship I have had, we get into this thing where we call each other by silly pet names. They are almost too silly and embarrassing to repeat (Stuff like Honey Bunny, Snuggle Bunny, or Honee' trying to be French sounding etc...) probably makes a sane person gag.
I have LOTS of names, rather than his real name, for my ex!
This is so funny, all we call each other is 'babe" or 'baby".
