This happened a while ago, what is your take on it?
I had been dating a guy for not too long, we were still in the early "getting to know each other" phase, and we had a free evening we wanted to spend together. I let him pick where to go because it didn't really matter to me, I would enjoy his company. He picked going to a nearby casino, he likes to play the slots, i mentioned there is a band at the dance floor, we both dance, but had not been dancing together yet.
So we're at the slots and he's playing and I'm just hanging out enjoying the evening, but not playing the slots. He gives me a $10 card and says have fun, play the slots. (It's a pre-loaded plastic card with an amount of money, no coins go in or out of the machine, the amount all shows up on the card, like a gift card.)
Well i stick the card in the machine, and right away start winning. This is fun, i'm thinking. Nothing big, but before too long I'm up to $40 on the card. He comes over, sees the amount, and takes the card out of the slot machine, and puts it back in his pocket. He keeps it for himself. He then goes back to playing the slots. I wander around for a bit, then come back. He says no to the music and dance floor. The evening ends.
If you give somebody $10 to play the slots on a date, is the money they win yours to keep? To me it's like giving someone a lottery ticket for a birthday present, but then if it wins, you say the money is yours. To me, that's not a gift at all.
Any money on the card I was going to either keep playing slots, or pay for a nice meal for us or something, there are nice restaurants at that casino, whatever, fun money for the two of us on a date.
Anyway i'm curious what your take is on his behavior.
I think you should have kept the money, sounds like he is a cheap skate to be honest.
The only thing you should have done, in my opinion, was ask him when he gave it to you, something like "if I win do i get to keep it?" . Who would have known he would have acted that way though.
At least you know how he is, and when he asks why you don't want to keep dating now you can tell him why!
That's extremely rude. He should have let you keep the card. Maybe next time he asks you out, pick a really nice restaurant that will eat up that money on your meal.

He sounds like a cheapskate. I wouldn't want to be with someone like that.
Get rid of this man, Tzaph. He's gonna make you a gambler
yeah, a guy who spends time at the casino is a red flag.
and yes he is out of the picture. if dating is about "getting to know" someone, then what i found out on that date went a long way towards making it easy to say no to dating him
He picked a terrible place for a date and was rude and cheap to boot. Glad you're rid of him!
