If you met a person who seemed OK, and it turned out they were looking for a marriage just to get a Green Card, would you do it, and see if you could make it turn out alright? Or at least enjoy it for a while?

never.

These foreigners tend to leave you once they get their green card. Do not EVER do it.

Not to mention marrying with the sole intention of legalizing a foreign national is highly illegal.

NO, because it's against the federal law...

if 2 people fell in love and one of them happened to get a green card out of it----nothing wrong. one person asking to be married for a greencard...not good.
if the person went back where they came from and if he/she still wants a relationship, then it may work out

Definitely not.
1. Its illegal.
2. Its being done solely for citizenship purposes, kidding yourself that something might come of it.
3. While you are "married" you might come across the love of your life, and ruin a potentially real relationship.

Yep.

The only situation that would make me accept a US citizen marrying a foreign national would be one where:
- the foreign national is here legally, working or studying
- the foreign national comes from a family background w/ good education and solid values
- the foreign national, while intending to settle down in the US permanently, is not the type who will simply run away after obtaining permanent residency
- the foreign national, once a permanent resident, is willing to seek full-time employment if necessary, and does not work only if both agree to it (such as when US citizen makes a very high income as is)

And of course, it's not a sham marriage to begin with.

1. Why enter into a relationship where its very foundation entails your being used as a means to an end?
2. If you are that desperate for nookie to do it, then you are a pretty desperate person. That would be a Life Examination Moment.
3. It's illegal and you would go to jail.
4. Any relationship based on anything besides love is doomed to fail.
5. I think we have enough immigration issues as it is. Why would I want to add to problems?

I've gotten quite a few responses to my online singles ad from women half my age who speak very poor english that I think are probably from various places in Eastern Europe who are obviously just looking for a way to get into the US. I've never responded to any of them because I don't want to be used. I do know guys who have married women from other nations and brought them to America but they were actually in love and there's nothing wrong with that at all so it depends on the circumstances.
