Back in the days of yore we grew up doing "all-over washes" daily with a bowl of hot water, soap and a flannel washcloth. A bath was a once a week luxury and we didn't even HAVE showers back then. Just sayin'!!!!

Hey, back off there, virgode! I may be ancient but not THAT ancient and the only time I remember chamber pots is on a hitchhiking trip through Europe when my friend and I landed up in a small village in Spain where we stayed for a couple of days with a couple of elderly sisters who, like everyone else in the village, had no indoor plumbing.

Water was pulled by bucket from the central well, I had Montezuma's Revenge for 24 hours and was horribly embarrassed at having to use the chamber pot under such dire circumstances but the sisters (who spoke no English at all and my Spanish was understood only because I'd studied French and Latin and could fudge it) were so incredibly kind about it all.

Growing up we had flush toilets but they were the old kind where the tank was way up high and you'd yank on a chain to create the flush. Rural areas had outhouses and today's PortaPotties are just a variation on that theme.

Had to love the rural French pissoirs of that era too. Walk into a stall, place your feet on either side of a drain in the floor and do your thing ...

Wait, we were talking about showers, right? Sorry, segued a little there! All your fault, virgode!

Used to be the norm to only bathe once a week. "Course you had to heat up the hot water and pour it in the tub.
