Yes and no. I've been approached by men I did not find attractive, but I've also attracted the tall, dark and handsome type that I definitely have a preference for. That said, it's a superficial preference that only determines the initial attraction. I have a weakness for men who exhibit intelligence, a vivacious, inquiring mind and a biting wit. Those qualities make it easy for me to overlook physical imperfections or an appearance that's not, strictly speaking, my "type". On the other hand, even the fact that a man is a classic example of "tall, dark and handsome" won't make me overlook the fact that he is mediocre or has no character.
For dudes: Just keep in mind that you are uglier than you think you are. If you think you are a 7, most women will think you are a 5 or a 6. If you weigh a chubby 215 lbs, most women will see you as a fat 230.
For ladies: Just keep in mind you are prettier than you think you are. If you think you are a 5 or 6, you are probably a 7 to a guy. If you think you are fat 140, you're probably a curvy 125 in a guys mind.
Yes, in fact that's a person's most attractive characteristic in my book. I'm not all that interested in people who don't show an interest in me. Playing hard to get? Means I'm not going to get you at all.

I'm got extremely spoiled with my 25 year old and although I know it's not right to compare men my age (48 but mid 30's looking) to him physically.
I didn't even pay him the time of day when he was first chasing me; I used to hang up the phone on him all the time. He was persistent, however.
Usually not. I've had really unattractive, boring, blah-like women I'd never look at like me; and, I've had situations when I had the hots for a woman who never gave me the time of day.
However, there HAVE been cases when:
1. there were women I found EXTREMELY attractive, whom I pursued, and whom I "conquered."
2. there have been women whom I didn't find physically too attractive, but romance unexpectedly bloomed, and at least one stands out as one of the most passionate and fiery romances of my life (which I will never forget and always be thankful for).

That's a scary notion. I've always considered myself a physical 5(+/-) depending on physical condition and a mental 8 with intellect downgraded by cantankerousness but upheld by general good humour so long as I don't have to deal with stupid people.
According to this theory I'm a 3 or a 4 and fortunate not to be nicknamed "Tardo".
