In Matthew 5:28, Jesus says:

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Do you agree with this teaching, interpreted literally? Let's say it is married man looking at another married woman to be specific.

Jesus is making a truth statement here. In the final analysis, whether we agree or disagree doesn't matter. It is what it is.

Lust is totally natural. It is part of who we are as human beings. Even if we try to control all of our thoughts while we are awake - we still have lustful dreams. It's natural. Now - having lustful thoughts and acting on these thoughts are two completely different things. But the thoughts themselves - I mean, I guess you can think it's bad and you're bad for having them - if you want to be a complete sadist and hate yourself!

No, its not adultery, any more than having thoughts about Bill Gates money means you are a thief. That's just silly. No human on this planet can control every single thought that enters their mind. Besides, how is it wrong to think about doing wrong, but it is not wrong to have temptation, in fact it is normal to have temptations in life? Temptation is simply considering doing something wrong.

I probably should have re-worded the question "fantasizing about a woman other than one's wife" rather than "having thoughts about a woman other than one's wife." It is true that a temptation is not a culpable offense; if it is promptly shooed away, than it is to the man's merit, not guilt that it adds. Only when the temptation is indulged in - freely and after sufficient advertence to what one is doing - that it becomes adultery. Of course, many married men freely fantasize about sex with others constantly, even when they are making love to their wives. There have been numerous threads in the Relationships forum, for example, asking whether the posters consider "getting lap dances" or "looking at porn" cheating. To a Christian, the answer is obvious - um, YES! Others, however, have their view of all things sexual terribly obstructed by modern degenerate society.
