None of the gospels were written contemporaneously. That's precisely why you never see a statement like 'Then jesus turned to me and said'. None of the writers were there.
That's because it's a shared story.
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Did not write the books that bear there names. They were too busy hanging around with, eating with, and sleeping with (eat of my flesh boys) their BFF
