Imagine that: a religion that protects abusers and harasses victims.
Do you get bonus points for generalization? I don't know what makes me think your understanding of Judaism is based mainly on hearsay. Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that I happen to be Jewish, and the first thing that popped into my mind was that you don't know what you're talking about.
This kind of terrible thing happens in all communities. Child abuse (and the cover ups that follow them) cut accross all socioeconomic and religious lines. It's terrible terrible, but it sadly happens all over.
The only thing newsworthy with the original post, is that the poster made the decision to single out the Jews. Now I wonder why that is?

Because the article talked about a particular Jewish community and its reaction to abuse?
Did you read the article?
Should Jews in particular not be criticized when they do this kind of thing?

There is nothing unique about the community that the article references. But this is not a Jewish problem, nor is it a community problem. As I said above, the religion of the people doing this is irrelevant. Convict the bad guys. Convict those who cover it up. Leave their religious affiliation out of it.

Since it is the community that does the shunning, I think that is part of the problem.
The Catholic church does not get a pass. Neither does an ultra-orthodox Jewish community.
Maybe they believe that protecting the collective is more important than protecting the individual? Where as Christians go buy the rule that the individual is more important than the collective. If the individual is harmed - the whole collective goes into a state of decay...but in the alternative _ Israel will trade one thousand prisoners for one Jewish captive. I can't figure it out- I am sure they can't either.
