Man, I was like joking when I said that they make up definitions to make us look silly or stupid. I forget who I was responding to, but I think he or she said something like scientists and philosopher think they're above us. I do respect scientists and philosophers, I actually hope to get a degree in philosophy.Though who cares about that? Part of the joke was was that they have esoteric definitions and one of the definitions was esoteric. Another was that we know that they make up these words. How can we know that when we're in the dark? Another part of the joke esoteric isn't scientific or philosophical word.
you leave out one very important point.
God only wants what is best for you.
if you find serving a being that only wants what is best for you onerous then maybe you need to think about what that says about you.
No, no no. This is just theist trickery.
The argument is that whatever happens is foi the best -whatever it is, and if we can't see that some of the really grubby stuff that happens to us is really all 'good' then the fault is supposedly with our attitude. Can't you see what a crafty piece of trickery that is?
Of course, if we all join hands outside our collapsed house tearfully praising God (Yes, I have seen this) then it proves God is real - or at least stops us doubting. It really is a superb little trick, but a trick, nevertheless. And many see through it. The problem of evil is one of the major sources of doubt - after rejection of hellthreat.
if God doesnt want whats best for you then you shouldnt serve him.
if he does then you should.
No, no, no, NO! If God is hugely powerful and runs a gas -chamber, you don't DARE NOT serve him, whether what He wants is good for us or not. Do you think that 'can the pot dictate to the potter?' quotes come up by chance?
Whether or not you serve God depends upon whether you think a god exists and, if so, whether it is something to be afraid of and obeyed, or indeed, admired and served.
why would you want to change it.
its what you are.
I hate pain and love pleasure.
I feel no need to change that.
I'm fine with it as it is.
Well yes, so far as it goes. We can go a bit further and try to arrange a world where the pain is minimized and the pleasure catered for, for everyone. Just letting things go on as they are is not going to achieve that and that's why i say we have to do better than what nature dished out to us because we WANT better.
Haven't we all? However, if you want to do a general logical and evidential MOT of your worldview with a view to updating it to meet Rational reasonability standards, I'm sure we will be prepared to do it for free.
