Must be. I've never heard of a church that charges admission.

But you have to donate some money if you are a regular church goer, I guess.

Disclaimer: I'm not a church goer, I just guess.

Some places, perhaps. Not our church, though it sure is appreciated if you do.

All churches take collections, but the vast majority are voluntary and anonymous. Some churches ask you to “pledge,” i.e., declare what you’re going to give for the year so they can budget accordingly, but it is still voluntary. I don’t know of any church that would deny you entrance to a service if you didn’t put something in the collection basket.

Some groups, like the Mormons, require you to tithe to be in “good standing” with the church. I’m not a Mormon so I don’t really know how it works.

I don't attend church I attend a Mosque. Nearest Mosque to me is 112 miles costs about $50 in gas money.

There are no collections in the Mosque I go to. Mosques usually do not have any collections unless it is for a special purpose such as a person is known to have a severe hardship and is in need of assistance.

At the church where I pastor you HAVE to pay nothing. Zero. $0. Zilch. Nada.

If you would like to give an offering (we have bills to pay, and outreach events, etc) you may. But I don't even know how much individuals in the church give, and I wouldn't dream of sharing it with the others, or demanding more if I did.

I do understand that they have bills to pay, and I don't mind paying my fair share. I'm not trying to take advantage of other church goers. That's why I'm wondering how much everyone is spending to support the church.
