(my opinion) Human beings aren't capable of authoritatively answering this question.. basically above our pay grade.
This knowledge was always provided to Humanity by The Wise Men. It is well hidden and persecuted by those in power, as it liberates human, and free human is no slave to those in power. I am not referring to just the "soul" question. Entire depth of knowledge on what everything is. Hidden under sevem seals and buried deep, available only for the chosen ones.
I am not personally aware if this evidence of other realms you refer to, at least not credible, verified evidence. Doesn't mean I reject the possibility, but I'm a natural skeptic.
Whether there would be any point in living is a deep, personal philosophical question, but would have no bearing on the reality.
I believe that the soul is immortal, that is the way I have been trained to think.
Where it is located may vary, but the soul purpose is final unification with God.

Hahaha, yes - now you
are onto something!
Because I have experienced this 'everywhere spirit' - many, many times...and let me say,
'And it always blows me away'. It is everywhere - living, conscious - it's in your ceiling - in the trees outside -
in the distant mountains - in the air you breathe.
Experience it once...just once and you'll know.
That's why i like "Lucy" so much, the movie with Scarlett Johannson.
Well, since a spirit is a life force, I would think it would fill the body. Just my guess.
Psalm 104:29-30 informs us that when God sends forth His spirit things are created. Things happen.
Once Adam died his spirit of life was snuffed out like a burned-out light bulb, and Adam returned to dust.
Adam was formed or fashioned out of the dust of the ground and at death returned to dust - Genesis 2:7; 3:19
When the dead, who will have a happy-and-healthy physical resurrection, return to life they will have life's spirit again.
God views those who love Him, even though dead, are considered alive in His eyes because of the Resurrection hope.
This is why the ' future tense ' is used at Acts 24:15 that there ' is going to be ' a resurrection.....
That physical resurrection takes place during Jesus' 1,000-year governmental rule over Earth.
This is when even ' enemy death ' will be No more on Earth - 1st Cor. 15:25; Isaiah 25:8
