I hope the knuckle-dragging halfwits don't come in here and complain that your post is derogatory to them.

Witty guy, that GBS.

And it's probably true in some countries.

Election is not the best system but it trumps all the rest.

Debatable.

But not in this forum.

And I couldn't be bothered anyway.

Indeed. A religion that doesn't learn and change is as a child that doesn't grow up. Where things go off the track is where religion views itself, as it currently is, as immutable, as if all the change throughout the ages to brought it to where it is, that made aspects of the religion to be as they are right now, were all "good", and anything that changes things after that is "bad". It's patently illogical presumption.

The Christians of the first century held to some fundamental beliefs about Jesus that my religion believes today, and as a consequence, we're not considered Christians today. That's okay with us; we consider ourselves post-Christian, because while we still abide the first century beliefs about Jesus rather than have had adopted the later mythology about Jesus that has been crafted by Christian churches, our religion has continued to grow and change, to mature spiritually as a religion, over the past couple of centuries especially, to recognize and honor spiritual wisdom from wherever it emanates.

Actually, no it doesn't.

Appointing the federal supreme court judges seems to have worked pretty week.

I have harped and harped on this issue throughout many of my posts, and this judge only proves my point.

I keep warning people that religion is inherently authoritarian and fascistic - and here we have an elected judge declaring a fascistic principle, abusing his power as a judge to do so. Naturally this idiot will find himself at odds with the Federal Supreme Court and hopefully will be removed from the bench. The figure of lady Justice is blindfolded for a REASON.

But here is the most telling issue of all: Note how I none of the board's most outspoken Christians are here condemning this guy? I mean, this judge was elected, after all, which means over half of the voters wanted this clown on the bench - and those that didn't vote didn't care if this clown ended up on the bench.

With that in mind, we simply CANNOT accept the idea that "most" Christians aren't like that - but "most" Christians elected this guy. Are any of those Christians raising a stink over this issue? I hope so, but the article doesn't say. However, it appears now the "good" judge is back-pedaling by saying that the 1st Amendment now applies to all religions - but ONLY after a rebuke from the ACLU. I didn't see anything that suggested Christians were rebuking him. I'm sure some were, but "most?" I just don't know any more, especially in Alabama.

But it's hard for me, sometimes, to accept the idea that "most" Christians aren't like that when "most" Christians elected this judge and "most" Christians voted for gay marriage bans, etc. etc.

^ lol how predictable

Anyways, I am not surprised that this is the Chief Justice of Alabama. I view the whole bible belt the same as I see Afghanistan!

Predictability is a good thing when discussing these topics. What else do you expect? Should I have a different opinion on the same topic every time it comes up? Yeah, that would be fun and unpredictable, but it sure as hell wouldn't be honest, now, would it.

Anyways ....
