Speaking at the Pastor for Life Luncheon, which was sponsored by Pro-Life Mississippi, Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court declared that the First Amendment only applies to Christians because “Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures” who created us.

“They didn’t bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship,” he remarked January 17 at the event in Jackson, Mississippi. “Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history. Let’s stop playing games.”

He then noted that he loves talking to lawyers, because he is a lawyer who went to “a secular law school,” so he knows that “in the law, [talking about God] just isn’t politically correct.” He claimed that this is why America has “lost its way,” and that he would be publishing a pamphlet “this week, maybe next” that contained copies of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, thereby proving that all the people “who found this nation — black, white, all people, all religions, all faiths” knew that America was “about God.”
Alabama’s chief justice: Buddha didn’t create us so First Amendment only protects Christians

The fact that this man is a judge at any level, much less on a state supreme court - much less that he is the Chief Justice of that court - is a complete travesty.

It is pathetic that the people of Alabama elected this man to any office (and it's ridiculous that we elect judges).

I often wonder whether people who bloviate about such things really believe their own Moderator cut: deleted or if they just pander to their base. Despite being a judge, he's elected, therefore he's also a politician. I think he's just cynically manipulating the ignorant.

Electing judges is a weird concept.

My opinion is that he is not applying the 1st Amendment Establishment Clause correctly. This is the same judge that had to remove the Ten Commandments he had installed in the state Supreme Court, too. I find it hard to believe that a lawyer doesn't understand the separation of Church and State.

BTW, this should probably be moved to the Politics and Other Controversies forum, although the conversation will probably get butchered over there.

The fact that this man gets elected to a judicial post condemns the voters of the state as supporters of institutionalized, unconstitutional Dominionism.

Yep.

When the crazy right-wingers claim "Oh, nobody is trying to ram our version of Christianity down your throat," it never takes too much time to find proof to the contrary.

This judge clearly has no idea what his job is supposed to be about and/or he has no understanding of the law of the land. Either way, he should be removed, but all know that won't happen. Pass the Bible and the guns!!

As an aside, religion evolves too; just wanna point that out. The variation of Christianity that's adapted to life in the American South bares all of the adaptive characteristics common to that area's culture. I'm 100% confident that Christians living in the first century wouldn't even recognize it, and, personally, I'm disgusted by its bull-headed ignorance.

This article perfectly demonstrates why.

I guess since black people did not found the United States nor write the Constitution that it should not cover them as well. Heck, it was white European culture. Also, we might as well go back to 1st century Christianity as well or true Christianity for that matter - whatever that might be.

Hey, I'm in Alabama and a very sizable part of the population hates him, too. He was removed from public office once before. But the knuckle-dragging halfwits keep electing the idiot.

My heart goes out to you, bro.

That's gotta be nice and frustrating.
