Roman Catholics? The Gospels are quite diverse in viewpoints. If a single monolithic group controlled them there would be much less diversity. This is in addition to the fact that anything resembling Roman Catholicism did not show up until maybe the 4th century. And 'born again' does not show up until the Gospel of John, 40-50 years after Paul wrote. Paul's imagery is more about dying than being born.
