Another facet of this is that god, by definition, is non-dependent on any person or thing. Humans are jealous and needy because they are finite, limited, mortal beings. A truly infinite, unlimited, immortal being would have no such concerns and would never express such concerns.
oh yeah who says that? What definition? actually, there is no part of the universe that can be without the rest of it. "humans" don't have to be here, but life will be.

1 and 2 in the OP are the same commandment , as there is only one God and the other gods of the world are celestial beings like demon and fallen angels who are evil like god of sin which are held by demons ............................
Is this accepted by Judaism or is it just another Christian superstition? Or do certain aspects of Judaism see it this way while others do not?
What does it really mean then?
The 2nd commandment is `you will not make graven images ` which is images for the dead or the occult ideas which will attract demons into people lives ..............................
Here are some pictures of a graven images which are worshiped in one way or another...
God is supposed to be perfect, infinitely good, infinitely loving. As God, as the Supreme Being, as the Creator of the Universe, God should feel more than confident in his own existence. Yet the Bible writes God as behaving like every other invented, pagan god that has ever been -- petty, jealous, insecure, narcissistic, self-absorbed, petulant, and easily angered. A true God should be above those things which is why I see nothing noble or divine or God-like with the Christian God. Just another character in mythology that acts all too human when he doesn't get his own way. Waa! Waa! Die!
yes of course. But you wee rant did not actually address my question!
WHY do you see those other commandments as 'okay' when you so obviously don't believe they are good ideals?
Your answer tends to imply that humans are incapable of reaching those ideals. they place those things as being achievable by G()D but not by humans.
You seem to be agreeing with that point of view...
Why would you not argue that for you G()D is a mythological creation of human imagination (at least that particular idea of G()D) but that this does not mean human beings are not at least potentially able to eradicate possessiveness and those other things you agree are okay - the agreeable commandments - even though they endorse such behavior.
It is like you are saying that not only is there no such Entity as this G()D but that human beings are never going to amount to being anything more than the same.

Those concepts do not make for functional, peaceful societies, but we make due. Jealousy, possessiveness, and ownership are why there are people living in filthy poverty while others live in gilded mansions, their owners fat on an excess of food they'll never eat.
True. I would even say that it is not just the 'religious' who are living in the lap of luxury nor that it is just the secular who are having to live in filthy poverty as a result.

So you see, no one is claiming that we really have a peaceful, functional society. I would say it is rather dysfunctional, myself.
That is good because that is the focus of this thread subject. 'Examining the Ten Commandments' - which - if any of them - contribute to helping human beings live in a peaceful functional society.
Your pick of the bunch (those that you like) are not contributing to that type of society - you seem to agree - so in endorsing those you are effectively saying that you support the dysfunction.
Dt. 5:21

Okay well...I guess old Richard is too busy to elaborate...on with the topic...
