There are also a lot of toxic parents. The God of the Bible is one.
He is like a father who tells his children he is going away. he is leaving them in the hands of neighbours. He will let them call him, but he will always remain silent at the other end of the phone and say nothing. He will leave a letter for them to read, which may be very hard to understand. The neighbours can interpret the letter for them. Sometimes the neighbours who he has left them with, abuse them, hurt them, even kill them. He knows this but does nothing.
He says that one day, he will return and if the neighbours have not taught them the truth of his letter or his children have misinterpreted his letter. or got tired of waiting for him, he will make them suffer eternally for it.
Yes, a parent is a great analogy to use, because it shows what a truly terrible parent God is.
I liken God to the bad spouse. He is never home, never answers, never helps you when you need it, but tells you what you want to hear, how he loves you, how he has some big house waiting for you...blah blah blah.

Blame isn't always equally spread.
But it is the fault of the person who chooses to stay with the dysfunctional or evil person.

As long as you don't hurt anyone I believe that you certainly are free to believe what you want. But you forget that religions also have done some wonderful things.

You accuse others for your own ignorance. Even as a child I understood that Santa never existed and that is was my parents who gave me these gifts. So are you saying that my parents didn't love me because they claimed it was Santa who brought me these gifts?
