Some people seem to use their religion like an insurance policy. Get 'saved' with the Jesus Company and you are guaranteed a place in heaven!
Some, who believe that to be true, think they can't get 'unsaved', no matter what they do, which would explain the nastiness of some extreme Christians! There are evil bigots who use their faith as an excuse for abuse others, for instance, the anti-gay mob of so called 'Christians' are as ghastly as ISIS, imo!
If there is a god, they might fin d out one day they are excluded from the heavenly portals for making the faith a laughingstock!

True enough, but do you know what it really means to be saved? Besides the fire insurance it means to become a new and better person, to turn from evil to love. Saying a few words doesn't make one saved. It's got to be true & heartfelt.

If it IS true and heartfelt, what is the purpose of the words, jimmie??? Doesn't God know what is true and heartfelt??? Only humans need words and they cannot tell which are true and heartfelt and which are not.

Public profession. Those who are saved will confess Christ as Lord because He has put faith in their hearts. As with baptism and all good works, public confession is not the means of salvation; it is the evidence of salvation.
Matthew 10
32 “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven." -Jesus

What I'm curious about is what constitutes being a "new and better" person?

So this evidence is for man's benefit since God knows the heart and mind. Why is that necessary?? What does it achieve? Our works and "fruits" speak for themselves.

When we publicly profess Christ, we please God and share the Good News. You publicly profess Christ right here on the CD.

Yes, I do, jimmie. But I don't think it has anything to do with my salvation. Why do you?? You seem to think it is the most important thing. I am trying to understand why.
