I don’t see why two major extinctions to allow mammals to become dominant would disprove God. But the fact remains that DNA is code. Can you cite any examples of code occurring by chance?
Who says hat DNA happened by chance? It happened for a reason, but not planned. And it isn't a code in the sense of written software. I know why it looks convincing to the believers why it is such a neat thing that it has to be designed, but the human ear is pretty neat, too and we can trace the evolutionary process. Indeed, some animated video models on the way disease and antibodies work was so amazing that some swore that it 'couldn't have got like that though chance, but had to be designed". I can see why people may jump to this conclusion, but it's a false one.
I've read a lot of explanations as to we DNA is natural and not an encoded piece of software, but I can't remember it all. There may be a handy video out there.
This is the hypothetical explanation, of course, but an explanation of how it might happen without Design it nevertheless is. It's quite an important point even though - like evolution itself, it is irrelevant. But the believers won't let go of this one.
As to the extinctions, if the idea was to produce Us as part of a plan, why not just make us -as indeed genesis says. The long process requiring the extinction of the dinosaurs to give mammals (and in the end, us) a chance to dominate, argues that we evolved and were not Planned or Created. Thus no planner, no creator other than natural processes.
That means, no God. Not one worth bothering about.

I thought Seeker SA had already disproved God a while ago with his 'fish with hips' thread.
Side note: do not confuse the 'fish with hips' with the Cambodian walking catfish or their walking perch.
Not for a long while. Not here anyways. Maybe he reconverted and hasn't had the heart to tell me.
He was a good friend of Rifleman as I remember.
I suspect he stopped posting after he posted some really bizarre ideas about evolution and South Africa.
He tried to claim that white people and black people evolved entirely separately (ie no common ancestor) which was a way out there statement to make.
My suspicion is that he was embarrassed after he recognised the absurdity of his claim and stopped posting.

It wouldn't disprove god, but it sort of seems like god would be saying...hey I screwed up last time aroundd, I'm gonna wipe the slate clean and start again...and then again. To me it seems like it would be gross incompetence.

I remember that. But he didn't have to leave for that reason. Changing your mind (especially for the better) is nothing to be embarrassed about.....
Though on the occasions I've fouled up it was embarrassing enough.

That puts it better than I did. Effectively it's the "Oh Noah" argument. If yoy had to eliminate man to start with Noah, then start with Noah; you don't need the Flood. If you created man, you didn't need to eliminate the dinosaurs to do it.
I remember how cool it was when he realised that Arq was his old sparring partner from "Tentmaker" and "In pursuit of God", before he deconverted.
