I will. In fact, I expect to see a lot of her over the next few months. She did not have good training to be an appraiser, although she does a decent job. Her getting upgraded is going to be rough, so I am going to be monitoring her work (at her request) for the next 6 months or so as well as giving her some one on one classes.

Just for your information, her maiden name was Ward, and she is Wolf Clan...........

Let her know that my family's name is Woodard, also from the same Clan.

Thursday, when I got home the cows were missing from our field. I figured they would keep until this weekend. A neighbor told me yesterday that she had seen them half a mile up the road. I went out to find them today, and they were standing at the gate waiting to come in. I guess they decided they needed a drink......they headed straight for their water trough. When they had enough water they began bellowing for some sweet feed.

Interacting with other creatures of the creator can be exasperating, amusing, frustrating, satisfying.............all at the same time.............at any rate, the girls are home and I think I found the spot they escaped from. I did have a long talking to them, but I think I was largely ignored.

I have a friend who has been going through some depression. Some of you may know him, so I will refer to him as a him regardless of gender. If you identify him from what I say, please keep it to yourself. It is the underlying situation I want to speak to, not his circumstances.

He had isolated himself for some time lately, he shut himself off from friends who cherish and care for him. Today I spoke with him for about an hour on the phone. I would have gone to visit but he is about 5 hours from here and I couldn't afford the time.

He has, like so many today, fallen into hard times. His last job was last May, he is behind on everything, including his house payments. His family has left him for his child's benefit. He is alone and was anxious. He had a doctor prescribe some anti-anxiety pills. These pills induced depression, lethargy, thoughts of suicide.........he had to quit taking the pills because of a lack of money........it was his salvation.

I was thinking about Michael Jackson (if you are news junkie like me, Jackson is hard to get away from) and how doctors, thinking they know so much, will prescribe and administer drugs that they don't really understand.

Had someone told Michael to quit the damn drugs, suck it up and face the pain, he would be alive today. Not only alive, but stronger.

Our ancestors......whether you are Celtic, Native American, Aborigine, African, Maori, Mongol, Greek...........regardless of your heritage......all had "tests" or "trials" for a man to cross to manhood from boyhood. With women it was easy to see when a girl became a woman. The evidence occurred on a monthly basis. But for a man to be a man, he had to prove that he could "take it."

My friend has learned that he can "take it" without drugs. Michael never had to learn that. There are times that being too poor to buy the drug can save your life.

Blessings come in all shapes and sizes..........but all too often we don't see them because they are not what we want to see. It reminds me of the line from one of Garth Brooks songs "One of God's greatest gifts is unanswered prayer."

To recognize the difference between a blessing and a curse is difficult. It must be considered carefully, and strength and insight both come from patience. The psalmist spoke of it when he wrote that "He who waits upon the lord shall be renewed in strength." This is not a Christian or Jewish concept....it permeates all societies, and all faiths. It is a truth that all should recognize. When you are tempted to medicate yourself, perhaps it is best if you simply meditate instead. medication might not be the best option.....sometimes sucking it up and "taking it" is.......

And sometimes having somebody to talk to, to just listen and not be critical or judgmental can be very helpful.
