My mother had several sisters and a couple of brothers. One of the sisters, Vera, died before I was born. In truth, I hardly remember any of the aunts and uncles. However, I do vaguely recall one time when my grandmother was chasing after me for some 'fun' (I think) reason. At the age of six I and my older sister and brother became wards of the state (long story, much of which is still a mystery to me) and we were placed in institutionalized foster care.
Anyway, I remember mom telling us about an incident that occurred when the family were sitting around my grandma's sick bed. As a kid the story freaked me out. She (Nana) was old, sick and frail and had been sleeping much of the time the family had gathered. Then, without warning, she awoke with a start. She seemed oblivious to the others around her. Instead, her eyes became affixed to a large clock on the wall in front of her. She appeared to be mesmerized by the clock. And, as everyone looked on in silence 'Nana' managed to gasp out the name "Vera", the name of the daughter she had lost years before. It was as though she saw Vera's face in the clock face. Nana died soon after.
Maybe he did. But that's why I said it's my GUESS.
