All behavior should be dealt with accordingly, no exclusions, no exceptions, an eye for an eye, it's in the bible. Religion is no excuse to make an exception.
We are not judged and ruled by the bible here, despite the fact that so many people who claim to follow the teachings of Christ would like us to be. The fact is that this country was NOT founded on Christian beliefs, but on the idea that no matter what one's belief system happens to be, they are allowed to practice it as long as it doesn't harm others or break the laws of the country.

Therefore, punishment meted for crimes should NOT be based on biblical concepts of punishment, any more than they should be based on punishments given in the Koran, or the Torah, or any other so-called "holy" book.

Your statement that the United States is "immoral" is subjective. I don't know what religious belief system you ascribe to, but whatever it is, it cannot be used to judge our laws here. About the only thing you say that I can wholly agree with is that religion should have no effect on the outcome of a trial, or on the punishment involved.
