While believers in the West generally define god in the way the abrahamic religions define it as, there are also a variety of other ways people define such an entity. I'm curious as to what believers define as god.
Those who don't believe there's an old man sitting in a cloud.... 'god' means a universal energy that all souls (living and dead) are a part of. Some people believe god is part of us.
God has always been my constant companion. My invisible friend. Better to have an invisible friend than visible enemy. My comprehension of god expanded, as I changed and is still expanding. I have no need to define, but a freedom to enjoy what I feel personally to be god.
A transcendent being beyond time and space. However in some sense God is also something intimate and "personal" to me, not simply an impersonal force. Something large and wise that is also a friend. A means of quiet connection even in times of solitude. Of comfort and calming when things seem hopeless or frightening. When I'm dancing and happy and look up "he" is maybe something that smiles along with me/us.
Also Christ is God as I'm Christian. This makes it where God's been a man who's laughed, cried, suffered, went to weddings, been exasperated with people, yelled at people, loved his family, had difficulties with some of his family, had good meals with his friends, had good conversations, and so forth.
And that's a bit corny, maybe not the best explanation even.
God is the Creator: Who created everything in the universe. He is the Lord of all nations and all worlds. To God belong the most fair and excellent names: Most Gracious, Most Merciful, Most Kind, All-Knowing, Almighty, the All-Seeing, the All-Hearing, the Providor, the Living Who dies not.
None and nothing is like God in anyway. Nothing is comparable to Him: He is Unique and Eternal.
God: there is no god in the entire universe but He alone without associate or wife, son, daughter or parents or equal or patron.
It is not people that make God according to their desire, but they should believe in Him and His majesty as is He that created them as a whole.
Some of the pagan Arab in the pre-Islam period, made a statue from dates when he was on a journey, and he prayed his date-idol until he was hungry and so he ate his date-god.
Probably Greeks have the most well-defined ones: male Gods and female Goddesses.
We, humans, are God creators and are very good at it.
(but, we don't say we are creating Gods; we say God created us in God's image. Next time someone is worshiping a SingleWhiteShemale God, you'll know what (s)he is.)
To me God = Love.
Since love can only be expressed in an act simply praying is not enough.
